How to play Omaha Hi/Lo - Rules

Getting started with Omaha Hi/Lo

A variation of the normal Omaha Poker is Omaha Hi/Lo. The game is played the same except players can potentially have two hands, a high hand and a low hand. Each player forms a five-card high hand using two of their hole cards and three of the board cards. If possible they can also form a low hand using two of their hole cards and three of the board cards as well.

A winning high hand is the same as in regular Omaha Poker. There are no qualifications for a high hand, so there will always be a high hand winner in Omaha Hi/Lo.

To create a qualifying low hand, the five-card hand must not have any pairs, and all the cards will be an eight or below. Aces can be considered low for a low hand. Flushes and straights don't count for a low, so the best possible low hand is ace to five of any suit combinations or all one suit.

Low hands are only as good as their highest card. So 2-3-5-6-7 is lower than A-2-3-4-8.

To form a high and a low hand, a player can use the same cards to form each, though it is rare that they have to. Also because of the restriction that a player has to use two cards from their hole cards and three from the board, if the board cards don't include at least three cards eight or lower, a low hand isn't possible.

At showdown, the pot will be split by the winning high hand and the winning low hand. Or go to the player who has both, or just to the player with the winning high hand in the event a low hand isn't possible.
